Procedure Text: How to Make Basic Slime

One of the popular text type or genre is procedure text. Almost the students in high school know what procedure text is. Procedure text can be defined as texts that describe how something is accomplished through sequence of actions or steps. Some people say that procedure text is texts that show us about sequence of steps to finish something or to use something. Procedure texts consist of series of actions to be accomplished in order to obtain the same result under the same circumstances. 

Procedure text has specific generic structure. It consist of goal or aim (usually is a title of the text), material (optional, not all procedure text use material in it) and steps (action must be taken). To make clear, please study the following example of procedure text about how to make something. 

How to Make Basic Slime

Ingredients 

1. 30 ml of craft glue

2. 150 ml of warm water

3. Food coloring 

4. 1 tablespoon of borax powder

Steps 

1. First, put the borax powder and warm water into the bowl. Mix it well.

2. Second, stir the mixture until the borax is completely dissolved.

3. After that, Mix glue and water in a separate container. 

4. Next, stir it until the two are combined well. 

5. Then, Combine the borax mixture with the glue mixture. Stir them together well. 

6. Next, let the slime sit for at least 45 minutes. 

7. And the last, take the slime out and have fun.

Sudah lama sekali saya tidak menulis di blog saya yang sederhana ini. Pada kesempatan sebelumnya, saya telah berbagi pengetahuan dan informasi mengenai Daftar Nama Raja-raja Kerajaan Tarumanegara. Nah kali ini saya akan berbagi sedikit informasi mengenai materi Bahasa Inggris. 

Tulisan saya kali ini berkaitan dengan text types atau sering disebut juga dengan genre. Tulisan ini saya beri judul Descriptive Text : My Sister. Sebagaimana kita ketahui bersama bahwa, descriptive text merupakan sebuah teks yang bertujuan untuk menggambarkan seseorang atau benda tertentu secara khusus. 

The following text is the example of Descriptive text which describe a particular person. 

My Sister

I have a sister. Her full name is Kania Pink. But I usually call her Kania.

She was born in Demak, on June 16th, 2005. She has a long hair. She has slanting eyes and pointed nose. . She is about 117 cm tall. She is very beautiful.. 

She likes swimming in her spare time. She also likes to play piano. In addition, she likes writing. 

She is in the second year of elementary school. She is a diligent and clever student. She never comes late to school. She always do her homework. She always get good mark for her test. Someday, she wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

I love my sister very much.

Five Trees Should be Planted for Every Vehicle

Vehicle manufacturers should take some responsibility for the serious air pollution in the city by planting five trees for every motor vehicle they produce, environment experts said.

Zulfan A Rambe, operational director of Indonesian Hazardous Materials and Waste Research (IHWaR) Foundation told a discussion in commemoration of World Tree Day on Nov. 21 trees must be planted to balance for the pollution the city vehicles are responsible for.

We will propose to the city administration to oblige the automotive manufacturers to plant five trees for each motor vehicle they produce.

“The administration should make regulations about corporate responsibilities to deal with the pollution problem.”

Environmental technology expert Eddy Soentjahyo said motor vehicle emission has contributed up to 70 percent of air pollution in the city, which has more than 5.5 million motor vehicles.  

Experts have said open green spaces one alternative solution to deal with air pollution, because it reduces carbon emission by absorbing pollutants and reload source of oxygen to clean the air.

They said trees can improve drainage by preventing soil erosion and absorbing rainwater. “The automotive industry also has the responsibility to provide green areas as the solution of pollution problem,” Eddy said.

Manufacturers should join together to buy land in the city where trees could be planted, he said. Eddy also suggested property developers consider making green areas on rooftops to absorb the sun heat.

Daud Silalahi from the University of Padjajaran in Bandung keeps losing its open  green space due to residential and industrial developments.

Some 9 percent of Jakarta’s city area is made up of “open green space”, said city administration, but the 2007 Law on Spatial Planning stipulates a city should provide at least 30 percent of its total size for open green space.

“What I (am) concerned (for) the most is that we have the law without implementation procedures,” Daun said.

As we know that Analyctical Expostion is a kind of genre which proposes or suggests a certain topic which may only be pro or contra, not both. The following text is the example of analytical exposition. 

Saving Energy can Reduce Global Warming

Everybody should change their way of life to reduce global warming. There are several things that we can do.

One of them is by buying and consuming fresh local groceries as much as possible.  It of course includes local vegetables, fruits, bread, etc.

Local groceries don’t need much transportation to get it into the market. It of course means, the amount of carbon dioxide produced is less than the groceries from other region. Therefore, by buying local groceries we are helping reduce the amount of carbon dioxide produced.

Consuming fresh groceries instead of frozen ones are healthier for us. Furthermore, fresh food or groceries means no requirements for it to be freeze up. It means that no electricity is needed and saving energy means reducing carbon dioxide and money.

So, from now on we should consume fresh local groceries to reduce global warming.

Understanding Text Types : Analytical Exposition

Pada kesempatan yang lalu saya telah berbagi informasi terkait dengan materi Bahasa Inggris, yaitu Report Text : Sydney as the Metropolitan City. Nah kali ini saya akan kembali berbagi informasi dan pengetahuan yang masih berkaitan dengan materi Bahasa Inggris. Siapa tahu bisa membantu para pengunjung yang mempunyai tugas-tugas Bahasa Inggris. Tulisan saya kali ini adalah Understanding Text Types : Analytical Exposition. Mari kita simak bersama. 

Analytical exposition is a kind of genre which proposes or suggests a certain topic which may only be pro or contra, not both. This type of writing consist of:

1. Opinion/ proposal of something or what is usually called a thesis
2. Reasons behind the proposal or argument or what is called argument
3. Sometimes what has been discussed is also expressed again in the end of the text called reiteration.

It has the purpose of arguing a case for or against a particular position or point of view. It also explains how and why the argument is proposed. The common grammatical patterns in exposition include:

1. general nouns, eg ears, zoos;
2. abstract nouns, eg policy, government;
3. technical words, eg species of animals;
4. relating verbs, eg It is important …;
5. action verbs, eg We must save …;
6. thinking verbs, eg Many people believe …;
7. modal verbs, eg We must preserve …;
8. modal adverbs, eg Certainly we must try …;
9. connectives, eg fi rstly, secondly …;
10. evaluative language, eg important, signifi cant, valuable.
